Yoga entered João’s path in 1999 in the city of Brasília, Brazil, his home town and this love-at-first-experience passion turned into a more serious relationship in late 2001 when he started teaching. João currently makes California his home after living in Rio de Janeiro for several years and travels to and from both places he calls home to teach and offer workshops.
In 2010 he completed an Advanced Teachers Training Course at Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute, in Lonavla, India. Fluent in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese, he currently teaches private and group lessons and leads teacher certification courses and workshops worldwide, develops programs aimed at improving workplace wellness and researches the use of audio-visual aids in yoga teaching.
His classes combine asana flow postures with breath awareness, bandhas and kriyás. They have an engaging, empowering and conscientious approach to encourage relaxation and meditation in order to maximize the student’s fullest, self realizing potential. In 2009 he was charmed by AcroYoga and he traveled to Montreal, Canada in 2011 to gain his teaching certification.
